The Oceanographic Data Facility (ODF) has over 40 years of experience at providing a full range of hydrographic measurement services to the oceanographic community, including:

  • Shipboard data collection, processing and analysis;
  • World-wide logistical support for oceanographic cruises;
  • Hydrographic sampling equipment development, maintenance and rental;
  • Seagoing electronics equipment development, maintenance and rental;
  • Shorebased data processing and publishing;
  • Shorebased seawater sample analysis (salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients);
  • Shorebased pressure and temperature calibrations.

The group is comprised of technical specialists, including chemists, computer programmers, electronic technicians, CTD and hydrographic data processors and marine technicians.

ODF support facilities include:

Products & Services

ODF products and services include:

  • Complete support (equipment, supplies, staffing and logistics) for making calibrated hydrographic measurements at sea, including:

    • Sample analysis for salinity, dissolved oxygen and nutrients (nitrite, nitrite, phosphate, silicate and ammonia);
    • DSRT thermometric pressure and temperature;
    • CTD measurements (NBIS Mark III, Seabird, FSI);
    • Underway measurements.

    These measurements can be made available in near real-time. We also can provide centralized shipboard data management and can incorporate measurements from other ancillary shipboard programs;

  • Hydrographic and electronic equipment design, fabrication, maintenance and rental;
  • Hydrographic data processing and publications;
  • Pressure and temperature calibrations.

ODF specializes in small and large-volume water sampling, and can provide up to 36 x 10L samples per cast using interactive adaptive sampling systems.

We also maintain an online Hydrographic Data Archive.
